Description

Three enormous tools are partly encircled by a massive gauge. The tools take the shapes of claw and chipping hammers, wrenches and connecting rods. As one mechanic commented, “this sculpture deals with the concept of repetition in trades.” The open sides of the tools reveal complex interiors, both human and mechanical. The raw steel gauge, calibrated with stainless and chromed increments, spans 22 feet as it cuts through the surface of the terrain. The heavy arched structure represents the nature of cyclical work and the continuity of trade services. This artwork is about dualities: raw steel and chrome, and the two worlds, art and trade, that have worked together and learned from each other in the making of this sculpture.
