Project overview

Project description

The objective of this project is to implement traffic calming measures, a pedestrian crossover and two sidewalk segments along Albion Road. The limits of the project span between Johnston Road to Maple Key Private. The traffic calming measures on Albion Road, between Bank Street and Lester Road, are one of the recommendations from a traffic study that was initiated in 2018. The sidewalk improvement portion of the project on Albion Road between Johnston Road and Bank Street was recommended as part of the Transportation Master Plan Update. 

The proposed scope of work entails:

  • Implementation of a speed table between Aladdin Lane and Baden Avenue.
  • Implementation of a new raised pedestrian crossover Level 2 Type “B” pedestrian crossover on Albion Road, connecting to the Sawmill Creek Pathway.
  • Implementation of a new sidewalk along the west side of Albion Road between Johnston Road and Pebble Road and along the east side of Albion Road between Bank Street and 60 metres south of Hunt Club Road. 
  • Implementation of curb radii reductions at the northeast and northwest quadrants at the intersection at Albion Road and Lester Road.
  • Implementation of two new bus stops along with bus pad/shelter pad as required on Albion Road between Maple Key Private and Queensdale Avenue.

Project timing

Design: spring 2024
Construction start: summer 2024
Construction completion: fall 2024

Project budget

The estimate construction cost of this project is approximately $1,000,000.

Public engagement

A summary of public engagements for the traffic calming measures on Albion Road between Bank Street and Lester Road to date include:

  • An initial online survey was conducted in 2019. This survey assisted the Traffic Study team with evaluating concerns.
  • A public meeting was held on November 7, 2019, where the public had an opportunity to review study progress as well as provide feedback.
  • Online consultations were conducted between November 5, 2020, and December 1, 2020, where a summary of progress and draft concept were presented.
  • A meeting was held with a public working group ahead of consultation with the broader public on November 28, 2019, and October 15, 2020.

A summary of public engagements for the proposed sidewalks on Albion Road between Johnston Road and Bank Street to date include:

  • The project was identified as a Pedestrian Project in the Council-approved 2023 Transportation Master Plan and was part of the multi-phase Transportation Master Plan consultation.  
  • Residents are invited to review the designs for the sidewalk segments and to contact Project Officer Dani Ferguson-Jamer, at dani.ferguson-jamer@ottawa.ca or 613-580-2424, ext. 24327, with feedback by March 25, 2024
