Project description

The objective of the project is to replace the existing 200mm diameter watermain on Prince of Wales Drive due to the condition resulting in frequent breaks. The work will also include the replacement of all water services to the property line and new hydrants.

Project budget

Estimated project budget is $1.32 million.

Public engagement

A public open house was held March 5, 2024, to present the design drawings to the public. Residents are able to review the design, ask questions and provide comments until March 29, 2024.

Public information session: March 5 to 29, 2024

The City of Ottawa held a Public Open House at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on March 5, 2024, between 6:30 and 8:30 pm to discuss the proposed infrastructure improvement project in your neighbourhood. Preliminary design drawings were on display for your review and staff were present to answer any questions and receive comments.

Your input is an important part of the consultation process. Your feedback can be submitted by email or by phone to the contact below by March 29, 2024.

The following provides additional information about the public open house:

What: The project involves watermain replacement, including the replacement of all existing water services to the property limits.

Why: The objective of this project is to replace the watermain that is nearing the end of its lifespan.

When: Construction is planned to start late spring / early summer 2024 and be completed by fall 2024.

Where: Prince of Wales Drive from Green Valley Crescent to just north of Peridot Private (~310m).

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the design consulting firm, J.L. Richards & Associates Limited, to develop a design for the watermain replacement. Construction work will be tendered in the coming months to select a contractor.

Geotechnical borehole work on road (November 2023)

Representatives of the City of Ottawa will be undertaking work in your neighbourhood.

What: Work will involve geotechnical borehole drilling equipment, operators and technicians to complete soil and groundwater sampling.

Why: The work is being performed in preparation for the watermain replacement on Prince of Wales Drive between Green Valley Crescent and Peridot Private in summer 2024.

When: This is a two-day work period that is planned between November 20 and December 8, 2023 between 7 am and 6 pm, weather dependent. 

Where: The work will take place in various locations on Prince of Wales Drive between Green Valley Crescent and Peridot Private.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained J. L. Richards & Associated Limited and their sub-consultants Thurber Engineering Ltd. to complete the work.

Traffic

Lane reductions are anticipated during this work. 

Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties

This geotechnical work will require drilling boreholes into the road surface, which will be reinstated following drilling. It is not anticipated that private properties will be impacted by this geotechnical work.

Noise

You may notice noise during drilling. The City of Ottawa Noise By-law (2017-255) allows construction activity to occur weekdays between 7 am and 10 pm. On Saturdays, work is permitted between 7 am and 10 pm, while Sundays, statutory and public holidays work is permitted between 9 am and 10 pm.
