Project description
The City of Ottawa is undertaking the design for the installation of a rock protection slope stability system of a 1 km section of Ottawa Regional Road 174 that runs alongside the Ottawa River. Major flooding events in 2017 and 2019 washed out portions of the road embankment which led to the road’s closure and emergency repair work being completed. The purpose of this project is to prevent future erosion during high water events.
Project timing
Design completion: spring 2025
Construction start: expected to start in summer 2025, pending approvals including budget and overall construction coordination
Construction completion: March 2026
Project budget
Approved project funds to date are $10.1 million.
Public engagement
The City of Ottawa will deliver a notice to affected residents regarding construction impacts prior to construction, anticipated in summer 2025.
