Young at Art - How to apply

Before you begin

The deadline for 2024 applications is closed. Application information for Young at Art 2025 will be posted in November 2024. 

Interested in applying next year? Here is what you’ll need to know: 

Be sure to read the program details carefully, including eligibility, art medium categories, evaluation criteria and preparing your artwork for display. This includes the following requirements which you will need to prepare to submit before starting the application process:

  • a title for your artwork 
  • the art medium category you’re applying to 
  • the presentation details for your artwork, which can include the dimensions or the specialized display equipment you would provide to present it in the gallery 
  • a high-quality image or video of your work - committee members will make their selections based on the content you provide.
  • an artist statement - an artist statement is a description of your artwork. This is your opportunity to share what inspired your creation and to let the selection committee know the thoughts, feelings and ideas behind your artwork. If your work is selected, this statement may be featured as the caption for your artwork on Instagram. The statement must be less than 1,000 characters.  

Rules of entry

  • Only one artwork entry permitted per person. 
  • Late applications will not be accepted. 
  • Participation in Young at Art is free. 
  • Submissions must not include profanity or discriminatory language. 
  • Always properly source your artwork. Originality is very important, however if the artwork was inspired by another artist or a specific cultural tradition it must be referenced in your statement.
