Description

Gift of the Estate of Victor Tolgesy.

Born in Hungary, Tolgesy died prematurely in 1980.  His career as sculptor went through a number of stylistic phases using wood, clay and metal.  After a significant period of abstract metal works, in the late seventies he turned to his roots and history, creating a whimsical figurative works in papier mâché or wood.  This major body of works became part of a book, entitled “Acrobatics” which was published after his death and is an allegory of the artist's life and philosophy
