Description

Margaret Nicholson draws upon the rich folk art tradition of the Atlantic region to record a wedding event. She designed and decorated this wood bench with colours and images that are strongly rooted in her background – Catholic from small-town Nova Scotia. In an attempt to impart the feelings and attitudes that accompanied the event, Nicholson painted the bride and groom with static, expressionless faces. Margaret Nicholson taught in Ottawa for 10 years before returning to Nova Scotia. Her paintings are narrative and sometimes humorous.
