The City of Ottawa is advising residents and motorists that the following streets will continue to be closed until 6 pm on Wednesday, March 20 for the lying-in-state of the Right Honourable Brian Mulroney:

  • Wellington Street, between Bank and Elgin streets
  • Wellington Street (eastbound), between Bank and Lyon streets
  • Metcalfe Street, between Queen and Wellington streets
  • O'Connor Street, between Wellington and Queen streets

These closures resulted in high traffic volumes entering the downtown core on Tuesday morning, especially from the bridges from Gatineau to Ottawa.  It is recommended to avoid any unnecessary travel to the downtown core tomorrow if possible or consider using transit as a quicker and effective option.

If you are driving, there will be enhanced police presence in the downtown core. Please allow for extra travel time, use alternate routes if possible, and follow directions of police officers.
