What: The work involves the implementation of six speed humps on Appleford Street.
Why: Following concerns from residents regarding speeding on Appleford Street, a traffic calming study and online survey were conducted by the City of Ottawa in 2023 – more information about this can be found on the website link posted above. Based on the survey, the decision was made to proceed with construction of the speed humps.
The traffic calming measures will be installed to address vehicular speeding along Appleford Street and increase pedestrian safety.
When: Construction of the six speed humps is anticipated to be complete by the end of November 2024.
Where: The six speed humps will be installed on Appleford Street, between Blair Road to Ogilvie Road. Plans showing the locations of the speed humps can be found on the website link provided above.
Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, Les Parisien Construction Ltd., to complete the work.
Traffic management
Appleford Street will have information and construction signs installed and maintained throughout the construction site for the duration of the work to keep you informed of the changing conditions. Expect some delays in your travel time over the course of the work. Significant effort is being made to reduce the duration of the construction impacts in your community. Access to local businesses and private properties will be maintained throughout the construction period. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained.
Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties
The speed humps will be constructed in the roadway within the City’s right of way. Disruption to adjacent private properties is not expected as part of the work.
Construction disruptions
The contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the construction work. We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation. For construction activity hours of work, the City of Ottawa follows provincial requirements and the City’s Noise By-law (2017-255).
