Project overview
Project description
The City of Ottawa has initiated the preliminary and design process to mitigate overland drainage issues in the City View community. The proposed works consist of rehabilitating the system by re-establishing the existing ditches and replacing key roadway and driveway culverts. The design will follow recommendations from the 2022 Robinson Consultant Incorporated study that outlined existing conditions and presented a multi-year plan for ditch system renewal.
The study recommended a 9-year phased approach (pending budget, capacity, scheduling, etc.) due to the total cost of the proposed works. This project will consist of the first 5-year phases and priority work. The reminder 6-to-9-year phases will be completed as part of a separate project following this one and pending budget availability.

Public engagement
A public engagement session was held in November 2022 to share the results of the City View Drainage Study with the Public.
November 2022 presentation [ 4.49 MB ]
A Public Open House is expected to be held in late January/early February 2025 to present the detailed design drawings to the public. Details will be provided for phases 1, 2 and priority work. However, design details for phases 3, 4 and 5 will not be available until the design has commenced at a later date.
At the Public Open House, attendees will be able to review the design, ask questions and provide comment on the proposed works. Other methods to involve community stakeholders will be implemented.
Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties
The planned design and construction is within the City’s right of way but may result in some disruption to part of the private property directly adjacent to the work. Lawns, pathways, gardens and/or driveways may be disturbed. The affected areas will be reinstated as soon as possible after construction is completed, at no cost to you. However, if you have plants or any other assets located within the City’s right of way that you want to preserve, we suggest that you may want to move them in preparation for the construction work.
We will not be able to provide specific details of the ditch system (i.e. size, location, or depth) or impacts to each property until the detailed design has been completed for each phase. The design has commenced for phases 1, 2 and the priority locations and details are planned to be available in late January/early February 2025.
