Overview
The City of Ottawa will be performing proactive and preventative maintenance work on the communal well system servicing the King’s Park neighbourhood.
During this work, the clean and safe water that you rely on will continue to be available. We are not anticipating any interruption to your water service. What you may notice is an increase of City vehicles and traffic in and around the two water stations in your area. This increased presence is necessary as we will be working at the well stations to inspect and maintain underground infrastructure. This is a part of regular well system maintenance and not a signal that anything is wrong with the water supply.
Under normal operating conditions, the community’s drinking water is served by two independent well stations, with alternating “online” and “back-up” status to ensure the availability of the system at all times. The maintenance being performed will require that each station be taken offline, for separate consecutive one-week periods per station. During those periods, backup measures will be implemented to ensure redundancy and continuity of service at all times.
Please be assured that the City will be taking all reasonable precautions to ensure continuity of water service, and the safety of residents in the affected public spaces at all times.
What: Proactive and preventative well maintenance will occur in the King’s Park neighbourhood.
Where: The work will occur on Chanonhouse Drive, King Street and the Chanonhouse Park in the village of Richmond.
When: The work is scheduled to take place from June 19 to July 14, 2023.
The work at 30 Chanonhouse Drive is scheduled from June 19 to June 23, 2023.
The work at 2 Chanonhouse Drive is scheduled from July 10 to July 14, 2023.
Who: The work is being performed by the City’s Water Services and contractors.
Traffic and pedestrian impacts:
There will be minor impacts to roadway usage at the intersection of Chanonhouse Drive and King Street (2 Chanonhouse Drive), as well as near the public park (30 Chanonhouse Drive), due to water discharge hoses routed across roadways to sanitary sewers. Partially opened maintenance holes will be monitored at all times and protected by barricades, with appropriate warning signage.
Sidewalk usage along King Street and Chanonhouse Drive will be temporarily affected on an occasional basis, as vehicles and equipment are moved in and out of the fenced City property. Signage will be posted to direct pedestrian traffic when necessary.
Temporary fencing will be installed between the Chanonhouse Park access lane and play area, as well as around the perimeter of the parking area to isolate equipment and prevent access to work zones from the play area. As such the parking area will be inaccessible for the duration of the work.
At each site, there will be varying numbers of City vehicles and staff each day. City staff will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of residents. However, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the maintenance work, such as minor delays when travelling through the area.
