Project description

The City of Ottawa plans to replace the watermain on McArthur Avenue from North River Road to approximately 80 metres west of the Vanier Parkway. The project will also include the replacement of the sanitary sewer on Marguerite Avenue from McArthur Avenue to approximately 40 metres south of McArthur Avenue. The project is required in order to renew this existing aging infrastructure that is in poor condition. 

Project limits:
•    McArthur Avenue - North River Road to approximately 80 metres west of the Vanier Parkway
•    Marguerite Avenue - McArthur Avenue to approximately 40 metres south of McArthur Avenue

Project timing

Design: October 2024 to May 2025
Construction start: summer 2025 (pending budget approval)
Construction completion: fall 2025

Current budget: $1 million, construction funding requested in 2025 budget

Geotechnical investigation (November 2024)

Beginning in late-November, the City of Ottawa will undertake a geotechnical investigation in your neighbourhood. This work is being done to determine existing underground soil conditions to support the design of future sewer and watermain replacement.

What: The geotechnical investigation work will involve the drilling of boreholes and obtaining soil samples for testing.

Why: This geotechnical investigation work supports the design of sewer and watermain replacement.

When: The work will begin in late November 2024 and should take approximately one week.

Where: The geotechnical investigation will occur at the following locations:

  • McArthur Avenue (between North River Road and 80 m west of Vanier Parkway)
  • Marguerite Avenue (between McArthur Avenue and Carlotta Avenue)

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained Stantec Consulting Ltd. to undertake the geotechnical investigation work for this project.

On-street parking 

As the various road reconstruction activities are in progress on your street, on-street parking may be restricted. In the event that access to your driveway will be impacted, you will receive 24-hours’ notice and provided with a Temporary On-Street Parking Permit (orange form) to permit on-street parking within two blocks of your residence. Residents with electric vehicles will need to find alternative charging arrangements when access is restricted. The use of extension cords within the public right of way is not permitted.
