What: Work will involve repairing existing asphalt sidewalk facilities, repairing a portion of concrete curb, installation of tactile walking surface indicators, and may also include catch basin, and iron adjustments as required. Increased noise levels are to be expected to facilitate the work.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be repairing asphalt sidewalks, with the objective of improving the City’s existing sidewalk network for pedestrians.

When: This work is expected to start in June and completion is anticipated by late September 2024.

The sidewalk repair works will occur during the day and evening and will involve localized pedestrian detours and potential minor lane interruptions.

Where: Asphalt sidewalk repairs will occur on the east side of Flannery Drive between Springland Drive and Brookfield Road along with a localized asphalt sidewalk and concrete curb repair on the northwest corner of the Flannery Drive and Springland Drive intersection.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, Les Parisien Construction LTD, to complete the work.

Beginning in late June 2024, the City of Ottawa will begin construction work to construct pedestrian crossovers in your neighbourhood.

What: This project involves the rehabilitation of existing sidewalks on both sides of Woodroffe Avenue between Highway 417 and Carling Avenue. The project also includes the rehabilitation of the western portion of the multi-use pathway situated between Woodroffe Avenue and Amaya Private. 

Why: This work is required to improve mobility and safety for pedestrians.

Concrete work and maintenance hole adjustments work will take place during the day from 9 am to 3 pm and 6 to 10 pm as required. Innes Road will remain open to traffic with lane closures expected.

Where: Work will occur along Innes Road from Jeanne-d’Arc Boulevard to Tenth Line Road.

Beginning in June 2024, the City of Ottawa will undertake a geotechnical investigation within your community. This investigation is required as part of the design of the Earl Grey Drive underpass and upgrade of Terry Fox Drive and Didsbury Road intersection.

What: The geotechnical investigation will involve the drilling of boreholes and obtaining environmental soil samples for testing.

Why: This geotechnical investigation supports the design of the road and underpass bridge structure.

When: This geotechnical investigation work is expected to begin in June 2024. The work will be completed during weekdays and should take approximately 5 days weather permitting.

In late May 2024, the City of Ottawa will begin installation of traffic calming measures and a sidewalk in your neighbourhood.

What: The traffic calming work on Southmore Drive East includes the following:

• Installation of four speed cushions between Walkley Road and McCarthy Road.
• Installation of a new 2.0m wide concrete sidewalk along the west side of Southmore Drive East between Walkley Road and Garwood Avenue.
• Installation of a raised crosswalk at the pedestrian crossing of Southmore Drive East at Walkley Road.
• Modifications to the intersection of Southmore Drive and McCarthy Road, including the replacement of all four pedestrian landing pads at the intersection.

Why: This work is required to improve conditions for all road users by calming vehicular traffic, encouraging more appropriate driver behaviour, and increasing pedestrian and cyclist safety.

The City of Ottawa has commenced construction on the new watermains, sewers, and associated road rehabilitation work as part of the Greenfield-Main-Hawthorne et al. reconstruction project. To facilitate this work, the City of Ottawa has approved the closure of Main Street southbound from Colonel By Drive to Greenfield Avenue outlined below.

What: The southbound closure of Main Street from Colonel By Drive to Greenfield Avenue to accommodate the safe coordination of the deep storm sewer maintenance hole installation at the Main Street and Greenfield Drive intersection. This closure will extend the existing southbound closure of Main Street, currently closed southbound from Greenfield Avenue to Hawthorne Avenue. The closure of Greenfield Avenue southbound from the 417 on ramp to Main Street remains in place.

Why: The extended southbound Main Street closure is required for the safety of residents and workers, as there is limited area to accommodate the open cut excavation and the necessary labour, materials and equipment.

When: The southbound closure of Main Street has been extended to May 10.  The scheduled closures may be modified as needed, for example if weather affects the schedule, or if conditions change.

Where: Main Street southbound between Colonel By Drive and Greenfield Avenue.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor Green Infrastructure Partners Inc. (GIP), formerly Aecon, to complete the work.

Traffic impacts

The detour for vehicles travelling northbound / southbound on Colonel By Drive wishing to travel northbound Greenfield Avenue is via Hawthorne Avenue. Local egress for the residents fronting Echo Drive or Harvey Street west of Main Street will be via Harvey Street to Main Street. Residents of the 10 Main Street condominium building will access their homes via Main Street northbound from Hawthorne Avenue. Egress for 10 Main Street will be northbound on Main Street to Echo Drive eastbound. Note that the southbound closure of Greenfield Avenue and Main Street (separate notice) continues in conjunction with the closure detailed herein.

Garbage collection

The contractor is aware of the garbage collection schedule and is required to maintain access so that garbage can be collected at the curb. If vehicular access is interrupted for any reason, the contractor is responsible to move the garbage from the homeowner’s curb to a common location where it can be picked up. Empty containers will then be returned to the appropriate homeowners/businesses.
