Undercoverpaintbrushes - Sense of Place

November 7, 2024 to January 14, 2025
Vernissage: Thursday, November 7, 5:30 to 7:30 pm

We are the Undercoverpaintbrushes, a diverse collective of womxn artists who met at the Ottawa School of Art in 2019. Through the pandemic's challenges, art provided us with mindfulness, kindness, and community. Embracing our varied styles and techniques, we celebrate our differences as strengths, growing together and exploring new artistic horizons.

Sense of Place by the Undercoverpaintbrushes explores emotional ties to daily environments. Our works reveal how people and places affect each other, capturing a range of emotions from solace and inspiration to discomfort and loss. They highlight the deep connection between humanity and the landscapes that shape our lives.

This oil painting depicts a whimsical scene of a swan-shaped pool float gently drifting in a serene backyard swimming pool, framed by lush greenery and a fence in the background.

Luminita Serbanescu - Human Moments

August 22 to November 5, 2024
Vernissage: Thursday, August 22, 2024, 5:30 to 7:30 pm

Art is my raison d’être. I was trained as an architect in Europe and came to Canada to be free and raise my son. I'm an artist who never gives up, experimenting and enjoying life in the artistic community. I am involved in art associations, solo and group shows, and book illustrations. Art brings me joy.

Human Moments, a series depicting the saga of human nature and individuality, a celebration of each individual, separate, unique, colourful. A collection of old Ottawa scenes intersected by dreams of futuristic flying machines. The paintings are of local people and places, inviting the viewer to reflect on contemporary social problems.

This colour image portrays an urban, Victorian era street scape that includes a stone building, cars and people. It is an acrylic electronic art print.

Guido Correa – Connections

June 13 to August 20, 2024

Vernissage: Thursday, June 13, 2024, 5:30 to 7:30 pm

As an artist, art instructor, and architecture designer, I am a constant observer of people, places and landscapes. My artwork focuses on the intersections between visual arts, natural sciences, social issues and community. I have held art shows in Colombia, Spain and Canada, my three homes so far.

This project highlights the inter-connectivity of trees, their intricate, subterranean bonds, and the key role of mother trees. It reveals forests as complex ecosystems based on actual communication, collaboration and intelligent social behaviours. Ultimately, it aims to point out the idea of inter-dependence and community.

Sylvie Grenier - Ephemera

April 4 to June 11, 2024

Vernissage: Thursday, April 4, 5:30 to 7:30 pm

Ephemera explores the passage of time and the transient nature of everything that surround us from materials to memories. Even in a fragile state, lifeforms possess beauty and rich textures that offer extraordinary moments of poetry. The exhibit offers a form of visual meditation on the notion of passage and becoming.

Sylvie Grenier has always demonstrated a strong visual sense, in her career as an urban planner and now as a painter. Her paintings are found in many private collections. She participated in artist residencies in France, Iceland and Spain and received grants from the City of Ottawa and the Ontario Arts Council.
