Project description
The City of Ottawa will be undertaking advanced work related to the Bank Street Renewal project beginning in June 2023. The objective of the work is to strategically replace aging infrastructure and fulfill immediate servicing requirements in advance of Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal construction.
The works include:
- Replacing the watermain along Bank Street between Riverside Drive westbound and Riverside Drive eastbound, and along Riverside Drive eastbound between Bank Street and 150 metres east of Bank Street.

Construction notice (May 2024)
This notice is to advise that construction in your neighbourhood will be resuming in May 2024. This work is being conducted to complete the rehabilitation of the roadway and landscaping along Sarah Billings Place and Junction Avenue.
What: Work will involve landscaping, concrete curb reinstatement and surface paving at:
- Junction Avenue between Brookfield Road to 100 metres north of Brookfield Road
- Sarah Billings Place
Why: The work involves reinstatements following the rehabilitation of the storm sewer and outlet to Sawmill Creek and the extension of a watermain across Sarah Billings Place to The Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus.
When: Construction to begin in mid May 2024 and is to be completed in June 2024.
Where: Construction will occur at the intersection of Junction Avenue and Brookfield Road, on the lands west of the intersection and along Sarah Billings Place.
Who: The City of Ottawa has retained R.W. Tomlinson Ltd to complete the work.
Traffic impacts
Residents can expect construction traffic and activity within the City’s right of way. Intermittent lane closures with flagging operations may be required during the reinstatement work.
Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained through the work zone at all times during construction.
Construction disruptions
The contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business. As you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the work, such as traffic delays, noise and dust. You may also feel vibrations due to heavy equipment operations. Vibrations from construction activities are quite common and rarely cause any problems. We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation. Construction notice (January 2024)
This notice is to advise that the City of Ottawa has rescheduled the construction rehabilitation of the storm sewer outlet to Sawmill Creek west of the Junction Avenue and Brookfield Road intersection to January 2024.
What: The proposed construction works include:
- Replacement of the storm sewer pipe between the Sawmill Creek outlet and the maintenance hole at Junction Avenue and Brookfield Road.
- Rehabilitation of the storm sewer outlet to Sawmill Creek.
- Repair and improve the storm outlet channel and side slopes.
Why: The work is being completed to address drainage issues upstream of the outlet pipe, pre-existing flooding issues of the properties upstream, and mitigate risk of future flooding further upstream.
When: Construction to begin in mid-January 2024 and is to be completed in February 2024.
Where: Construction will occur at the intersection of Junction Avenue and Brookfield Road and on the lands west of the intersection.
Who: The City of Ottawa has retained R.W. Tomlinson Ltd to complete the work.
Traffic impacts

What: The construction works include:
- Extending the watermain across Sarah Billings Place to The Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus, crossing underneath the Transitway.
- Reinstatement of The Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus property in spring 2024.
Why: The work is being completed in advance of Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal construction to strategically replace aging infrastructure and fulfill immediate servicing requirements.

Construction update (August 2023)
This notice is to advise that additional advanced work related to the Bank Street Renewal project will be undertaken in your neighbourhood through the fall 2023, and the additional construction will continue to involve lane restrictions on Bank Street.
Bank Street will again be reduced to one lane in each direction between Riverside Drive westbound and the OC Transpo Transitway intersection until December 2023.
What: The proposed construction works include:
- Replacing the sanitary sewer lateral service to 1365 Bank Street between Riverside Drive eastbound and the OC Transpo Transitway.
- Replacement of utility maintenance holes between Riverside Drive westbound and the OC Transpo Transitway.
- Watermain connection at Bank Street and Riverside Drive eastbound.
- Extending a section of watermain from Sarah Billings Place to the Riverside Hospital, crossing underneath the Transitway. This work is on-going.
Why: The work is being completed in advance of Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal construction to strategically replace aging infrastructure and fulfill immediate servicing requirements.
When: Construction to continue through the fall 2023.
Where: Construction will occur in the following locations:
- Bank Street between Riverside Drive westbound and the OC Transpo Transitway
- Sarah Billings Place and on the Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus

Traffic impacts
Residents can expect construction traffic and activity within the City’s right of way. Bank Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Riverside Drive westbound and the OC Transpo Transitway intersection into the fall 2023.
Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained through the work zone at all times during construction.
Pre-construction survey
The contractor will be performing a pre-construction survey of all buildings and landscapes within the project limits to document their current conditions prior to the commencement of construction.
