Project overview

Project description

The City of Ottawa has identified the need to undertake an integrated road, sewer and watermain rehabilitation project for select street segments within the Manor Park Community. The project is being conducted to replace aging road, sewer and watermain infrastructure and separate the existing combined sewer system.

Affected areas within the project limits, all or portions thereof, include:

  • Arundel Avenue, from Farnham Crescent to St-Laurent Boulevard
  • Braemar Street, from Ava Road to Arundel Avenue
  • Farnham Crescent, from Ava Road north to the dead end
  • Finter Street, from St-Laurent Boulevard to the dead end 
  • Jeffrey Avenue, from St-Laurent Boulevard to Braemar Street
  • Kilbarry Crescent, from Sandridge Road to Ava Road

Project timing

Design: April 2024 to April 2025
Construction start: spring 2025 (subject to funding)
Construction completion: summer / fall 2026

Project budget

Approved project funds to date are $1.8 million. Budget will be adjusted once the design is completed and prior to the construction start date.

Public engagement

A public open house is planned in the fall/winter of 2024 to present the design drawings to the public. At that time, residents will be able to review the design, ask questions and provide comment on the proposed works.

Geotechnical investigation notice (June 2024)

In June 2024, the City of Ottawa will begin geotechnical work in your neighbourhood. This work is being conducted to facilitate the design for renewal of the watermains, sewers and roads, and provision of new sidewalks and speed reduction measures on sections of Jeffery Avenue, Braemar Street, Kilbarry Crescent, Arundel Avenue, Farnham Crescent and Finter Street. 

What: Boreholes will be advanced throughout the area.

Why: The City of Ottawa will be renewing buried infrastructure and associated road works in your area.

When: This work is tentatively planned to begin the week of June 17 and completion is anticipated by mid-July 2024, weather dependent.

Where: Boreholes are to be drilled along the road sections listed below. One lane of traffic will be maintained at all times during the geotechnical work.

  • Arundel Avenue, from Farnham Crescent to St-Laurent Boulevard
  • Braemar Street, from Ava Road to Arundel Avenue
  • Farnham Crescent, from Ava Road north to the dead end
  • Finter Street, from St-Laurent Boulevard to the dead end 
  • Jeffrey Avenue, from St-Laurent Boulevard to Braemar Street
  • Kilbarry Crescent, from Sandridge Road to Ava Road

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the consultant, Thurber, to complete the work.

Construction disruptions

Thurber, and their contractor George Downing Estate Drilling, will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the normal life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the operation of the work.
