Public engagement

The City of Ottawa invited residents to review and provide comments on the Laurier Avenue Cycling Modifications Project preliminary design presented in the plans below. We requested that comments be submitted by September 29, 2022. Questions and comments can still be submitted by email or phone to the Project Manager, contact below.

Public engagement for the detail design is being planned for spring 2024, it will include what to expect during construction related to traffic impacts, as well as the final design drawings.

Preliminary design drawings

The preliminary design drawings can be accessed using the link below. As with most construction drawings the darker lines (and any coloured lines) represent the new (proposed) infrastructure. The grey lines in the background represent the existing infrastructure.

The drawings show the westbound cycling facility converted from an on-road facility to a raised boulevard on the north side of Laurier Avenue from Queen Elizabeth Driveway to just west of Elgin Street. The design also includes a protected intersection at Laurier Avenue and Elgin Street.

What is a protected intersection?

A protected intersection is designed to make it safer for vulnerable road users, which includes people on bicycles and pedestrians, in the approach to and when crossing an intersection. This is achieved by shortening crossing distances, reducing exposure, increasing visibility, and improving yielding behaviour by motor vehicle drivers. For more information you can visit the Protected Intersection Design Guide or contact the City project manager below.

Accessibility

Accessibility is an important consideration for the City of Ottawa. The City makes every effort to provide access through and around construction sites. If you require a disability-related accommodation, please contact the project team listed below. Accessible formats and communication supports are available, upon request.

Safety

The City of Ottawa is committed to safety in and around project sites. The project team continues to work closely with the industry and to comply with recommendations provided by municipal, provincial and federal health officials, as well as the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development.
