Ashgrove Crescent sidewalk repairs, 35 Ashgrove Crescent to Parkfield Crescent East

The City of Ottawa will begin construction along Ashgrove Crescent to improve pedestrian accessibility.

What: Discontinuous sidewalk repair locations on Ashgrove Crescent between 35 Ashgrove Crescent and Parkfield Crescent (east).

Why: The purpose of the project is to improve pedestrian traversing conditions.

When: Construction is anticipated to start the week of November 4 and be completed by late December 2024

Where: Ashgrove Crescent between 35 Ashgrove Crescent and the east leg of Parkfield Crescent.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, Strada Construction Group, to complete the work.

If you have a subsurface lawn irrigation system that extents into City’s right of way, please notify the project team identified below to discuss requirements to ensure the system is not damaged during construction.

Traffic impacts

Reduced roadway widths and temporary lane reductions will be required at times to allow for the construction. Should any full road closures be required, advance notice will be provided to residents.

On-street parking and local access

While the construction activities are in progress, on-street parking will be restricted. Local access will be maintained to residents, business owners and emergency vehicles. Periodically, vehicular access to your property may be unavailable; the contractor is required to provide 24-hour notification of temporary loss of vehicular access/egress to your property. A temporary On-Street Parking Permit will be made available to allow on-street parking within two blocks of your residence when these disruptions occur. Residents with electric vehicles will need to find alternative charging arrangements when access is restricted. The use of extension cords within the public right of way is not permitted.

Should you have additional concerns about reduced access, such as business deliveries or accessibility requirements, please contact the project manager listed below.

Impact on the right of way and adjacent private properties

The construction is within the City’s right of way but may result in some disruption to part of the private property directly adjacent to the work. The City will reinstate sections of landscaping, driveways and walkways that are disturbed by construction. However, if you have plants or any other assets located within the City’s right of way that you want to preserve, we suggest that you may want to move them in preparation for the construction work.

Contractor responsibility

As part of this contract, the contractor is assuming full responsibility for the construction work until it is entirely complete as well as any damages to private property resulting from these construction activities. In the event of such occurrences, all claims for damages should be immediately reported both verbally and in writing to the contractor and to the City’s on-site representative. This will ensure prompt notification of appropriate authorities to complete the claim investigations.

Construction disruptions

The contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business, but, as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the work, such as traffic delays, noise and dust. You may also feel vibrations due to heavy equipment operations. Vibrations from construction activities are quite common and are rarely a cause for concern.
We would like to thank you for your patience and cooperation.

Sewer Lining Program – Parkdale Avenue

The City is continuing preparation work for sewer rehabilitation in your area. The City will be using a trenchless technology called Non-Styrene Cured In Place Pipe to minimize the impact of construction.

What: The preparation work will involve cleaning and inspection of the sewer. The contractor will return at a later date to perform sewer rehabilitation using a Non-Styrene Cured in Place Pipe (CIPP) lining process. CIPP rehabilitation minimizes the impact of construction by repairing the existing sewer without having to dig. The CIPP method of construction is less disruptive and can be completed quicker than traditional construction techniques.

Why: Sewer rehabilitation is required due to the age and condition of the existing infrastructure.

When: Sewer cleaning and inspection work in preparation for rehabilitation is expected to begin in December. The preparation work is expected to take between one and three days to complete on each street. Please note this work is weather dependent. A subsequent notification letter will be distributed to your residence or business in advance of the start of sewer liner installation to provide further details.

Where: The sewer being rehabilitated is located on Parkdale Avenue from Burnside Avenue to Lyndale Avenue.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the contractor, Clearwater Structures Inc., to complete the work.

What is Non-Styrene Cured in Place Pipe (CIPP)?

Non-Styrene Cured in place pipe (CIPP) is a sewer lining process where a styrene-free resin (glue like plastic) in a saturated tube is inserted into an existing pipe and inflated to take the shape of the existing pipe. Heat is then added to the inflated tube to cure (harden) the resin using hot water or steam. Once the resin has cured, a new seamless pipe has been installed in the sewer. The final step in the process is to cut holes in the newly installed CIPP liner to allow for flow from connected laterals to flow into the sewer. The use of styrene-free resin mitigates the odours emitted by standard styrenated resin during construction.

Traffic management

To accommodate the proposed construction, lane reductions and/or alternating traffic can be expected after 6 pm. Access to local businesses and private properties will be maintained throughout the construction period. Access for pedestrians and cyclists will be maintained.

On-street parking and local access

On-street parking restrictions will be needed to facilitate the work. Local access will be maintained to residents, business owners and emergency vehicles. In the event that access to your driveway will be impacted, you will receive 24-hours’ notice and be provided with a Temporary On-Street Parking Permit (orange form) to permit on-street parking within two blocks of your residence.
