Project description

The City of Ottawa will be undertaking advanced work related to the Bank Street Renewal project beginning in June 2023. The objective of the work is to strategically replace aging infrastructure and fulfill immediate servicing requirements in advance of Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal construction.

The works include:

  • Replacing the watermain along Bank Street between Riverside Drive westbound and Riverside Drive eastbound, and along Riverside Drive eastbound between Bank Street and 150 metres east of Bank Street.

Approved project funds to date are $15 million.

New traffic impacts

The following new traffic impacts will be in place:

Until December 2023:

Bank Street

  • Bank Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Riverside Drive westbound and the OC Transpo Transitway intersection

Construction update (August 2023)

This notice is to advise that additional advanced work related to the Bank Street Renewal project will be undertaken in your neighbourhood through the fall 2023, and the additional construction will continue to involve lane restrictions on Bank Street. 

Bank Street will again be reduced to one lane in each direction between Riverside Drive westbound and the OC Transpo Transitway intersection until December 2023.

What: The proposed construction works include:

  • Replacing the sanitary sewer lateral service to 1365 Bank Street between Riverside Drive eastbound and the OC Transpo Transitway.
  • Replacement of utility maintenance holes between Riverside Drive westbound and the OC Transpo Transitway.
  • Watermain connection at Bank Street and Riverside Drive eastbound.
  • Extending a section of watermain from Sarah Billings Place to the Riverside Hospital, crossing underneath the Transitway. This work is on-going.

Why: The work is being completed in advance of Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal construction to strategically replace aging infrastructure and fulfill immediate servicing requirements. 

When: Construction to continue through the fall 2023.

Where: Construction will occur in the following locations:

  • Bank Street between Riverside Drive westbound and the OC Transpo Transitway
  • Sarah Billings Place and on the Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained R.W. Tomlinson Ltd to complete the work.

Traffic impacts

Residents can expect construction traffic and activity within the City’s right of way. Bank Street will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Riverside Drive westbound and the OC Transpo Transitway intersection into the fall 2023.

Pedestrian and cyclist access will be maintained through the work zone at all times during construction.

Pre-construction survey

The contractor will be performing a pre-construction survey of all buildings and landscapes within the project limits to document their current conditions prior to the commencement of construction.

Construction disruptions

The contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the everyday life of your family and/or operation of your business. As you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during the course of the work, such as traffic delays, noise and dust. You may also feel vibrations due to heavy equipment operations. Vibrations from construction activities are quite common and rarely cause any problems. We would like to thank you for your patience and co-operation. For construction activity hours of work, the City of Ottawa follows provincial requirements and the City’s Noise By-law (2017-255).

Construction notice (August 2023)

This notice is to advise that the City of Ottawa will be undertaking the construction rehabilitation of the storm sewer outlet to Sawmill Creek west of the Junction Avenue and Brookfield Road intersection in late August 2023. 

What: The proposed construction works include:

  • Replacement of the storm pipe segment and upstream maintenance hole.
  • Rehabilitation of the storm sewer outlet to Sawmill Creek.
  • Repair and improve the storm outlet channel and side slopes.

Why: The work is being completed to address drainage issues upstream of the outlet pipe, pre-existing flooding issues of the properties upstream, and mitigate risk of future flooding further upstream. 

When: Construction to begin in late August 2023 and is to be completed in September 2023.

Where: Construction will occur on the lands west of Junction Avenue and Brookfield Road.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained R.W. Tomlinson Ltd to complete the work.

This notice is to advise that the City of Ottawa will be undertaking the construction of a new sidewalk along Cecil Avenue beginning in August 2023. 

Cecil Avenue will be reduced to local traffic only during the construction. 

What: The proposed construction works include:

  • Installing a new catch basin.
  • Constructing a link of sidewalk along Cecil Avenue between the existing south side sidewalk and Bank Street.
  • Reinstatement of the road asphalt.

Why: The work is being completed in advance of Phase 1 of the Bank Street Renewal construction to strategically replace aging infrastructure and fulfill immediate servicing requirements. 

When: Construction to begin in August 2023 and is to be completed in September 2023.

Where: Construction will occur on Cecil Avenue between Bank Street and the dead-end.

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained R.W. Tomlinson Ltd to complete the work.

This notice is to advise that the City of Ottawa will be undertaking a watermain replacement along Sarah Billings Place beginning in July 2023. 

Sarah Billings Place will be reduced to local traffic only during the construction. 

What: The proposed construction works include:

  • Replacing the watermain along Sarah Billings Place between Leslie Avenue and the Transitway.
  • Replacing the fire hydrant at the intersection of Sarah Billings Place and Leslie Avenue.
  • Extending the watermain across Sarah Billings Place to the Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus.
  • Reinstatement of asphalt and concrete curbs. 

Why: The work is being completed in advance of Phase 1 of the Bank St. Renewal construction to strategically replace aging infrastructure and fulfill immediate servicing requirements. 

When: Construction to begin in July 2023 and is to be completed in September 2023.

Where: Construction will occur on Sarah Billings Place and on the Ottawa Hospital Riverside Campus

The City of Ottawa will be undertaking advanced work related to the Bank Street Renewal project in your neighbourhood starting in June until September 2023 and the construction will involve night work on Bank Street and Riverside Drive.

What: Night work will involve traffic signal relocation, weather permitting, and will be carried out at night to provide a safer operation to motorists and other road users.

When: This work is expected to start in June between 7 pm and 7 am the following morning.

Where: Work will occur in the following locations:

  • Bank Street at Riverside Drive Westbound
  • Bank Street at Riverside Drive Eastbound 

Who: The City of Ottawa has retained the Contractor, R.W. Tomlinson Ltd, to complete the work.

Construction disruptions

The Contractor will take every precaution to minimize interruptions to the normal life of your family and/or operation of your business, but as you can appreciate, there may be some inconvenience during construction. We would like to thank you in advance for your patience and co-operation.

For construction activity hours of work, the City of Ottawa follows provincial requirements and the City’s Noise By-law (2017-255). A noise by-law exemption will be in place for this work.
