Lifeguard and swimming instructors
If you are thinking of applying for a position with the City of Ottawa as a lifeguard or swimming instructor, there are certain hiring and screening requirements that must be met. National Lifeguard Service (NLS), Standard First Aid, CPR level-C, Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI), LSS Lifesaving Instructor, Automated External Defibrillation (AED) and Oxygen Therapy or Airway Management represent pre-requisites for hire with the City of Ottawa. Public Library (OPL) Business Services offers new entrepreneurs a range of information from marketing to how-to-start a business. Business librarians provide one-on-one business consultations, by appointment, at all library branches. Invest Ottawa (the City of Ottawa's economic development initiative) offers a number of services to people who are thinking about self-employment or who are interested in growing their business. Youth Futures
Youth Futures is a six month bilingual program (February-August) that supports high school students, aged 16 to 21. The program helps high school students to succeed in post-secondary education and the work force, through leadership development, mentorship, employment placement, and post-secondary orientation. This experience aims to create equitable opportunities that helps youth build successful futures and strong communities.
Youth Futures is a partnership between the City of Ottawa, BGC Ottawa , and the Ottawa Community Housing Foundation. The program is funded, in part by the City of Ottawa’s Housing and Homelessness Investment Plan.
