The Residential Protective Plumbing program provides financial assistance to qualified City of Ottawa property owners for the installation of protective plumbing devices such as sump pumps and storm and sanitary backwater valves.

Eligibility requirements
You may be eligible for Residential Protective Plumbing rebates if:

The applicant's property must be:
- a residential unit within the City of Ottawa;
- built prior to January 1, 2004 for protective plumbing work related to the private storm sewer services; or
- built prior to January 1, 2012 for protective plumbing work related to private sanitary sewer services.

You obtain a building permit prior to installation

You arrange to install one or more approved protective plumbing device(s), and the work is completed in accordance with City of Ottawa by-laws, City of Ottawa Sewer Design Guidelines, and Standards current at the time of the installation

You receive a completed Building Code Services inspection report

You apply for the rebate within one year of the issuance date of the building permit
Note, rebates are not available to address the maintenance, repair, or replacement of existing protective plumbing devices.
Available rebates and amounts
The City will rebate the lesser of the maximum rebate amount or the cost of the work.

How to apply
- Complete an online application or download the form to complete and submit by mail or in person
- Attach documentation confirming ownership of the property
- Attach copy of the paid, itemized invoice for installation of protective plumbing devices
- Attach copy of the building permit and Building Code Services inspection report
