Residential Protective Plumbing program

The Residential Protective Plumbing program provides financial assistance to qualified City of Ottawa property owners for the installation of protective plumbing devices such as sump pumps and storm and sanitary backwater valves.

Eligibility requirements

You may be eligible for Residential Protective Plumbing rebates if:

  1. Your property is a residential unit within the City of Ottawa
  2. Your property was built prior to January 1, 2004 for a rebate for a stormwater backwater valve
  3. Your property was built prior to January 1, 2012 for a rebate for a sanitary backwater valve
  4. The protective plumbing was not installed by the City of Ottawa
  5. The work is complete and rebate application received within 12 months of the date of the Building Permit

Note, rebates are not available for maintenance, repair, or replacement of existing protective plumbing devices.

Available rebates and amounts

The City will rebate the lesser of the maximum rebate amount or the cost of the work.

Secondary Sump Pump with battery backup power installed in an existing sump pit  $1,500 
Primary Sump Pump with battery backup power and construction of a sump pit  $3,000 
Secondary Sump Pump with battery backup power and construction of a sump pit  $3,000 

How to apply

  1. Complete an online application or download the form to complete and submit by mail or in person
  2. Attach documentation confirming ownership of the property
  3. Attach copy of the paid, itemized invoice for installation of protective plumbing devices
  4. Attach copy of the building permit and Building Code Services inspection report
